An independent design studio founded in India in 2024 by Sana Alam, working with sculptural objects and lighting shaped through a material-led process.

Mugen began with a single idea: that objects should come from the material, not be imposed onto it. Weight, texture, surface, and the behaviour of light are not details to refine later, they are where the work begins.

Concepts emerge through an exploration of form, material, and balance. Working primarily with stone, glass, and metal, ideas are developed and refined in the studio before being translated into physical form. Each piece is then carefully carved, shaped, and finished by hand in close collaboration with master artisans, allowing the character of the material to guide the final outcome.

These are not decorative objects. They shape atmosphere. Light softens through surface. Forms hold stillness. Each piece is designed to slow a space down.

An obsession with material. A studio called infinite.

What started as a personal search became a studio. Today we work across collectible objects, lighting, and spatial pieces in close collaboration with artisans, craftsmen, and engineers across India.

Design begins where familiarity loses its hold and form finds its own direction.

If you are furnishing a home, commissioning a piece, or starting a project, we would be glad to hear from you.
